As a starting point, what do we mean by “joy”? “Joy” is what you think it is; it’s that sense of well-being, happiness, and delight that we all love—and wish we experienced more often!

Doesn’t it seem like when we finally get some joy, it’s gone too soon? And why is that? It is because our joy is normally dependent on our circumstances. (I mean we have joy on vacation! But who is joyful on the way home?

Lasting joy is rooted in Jesus himself. Because he is always dependable, he never changes. And guess what? Because we are in Christ, we enjoy the blessings he has earned and given us in our new identity in him.

This joy does not put on a fake smile that denies pain and suffering. As Christians, we have real problems, but we have real joy that gives us strength to endure and even thrive.

This joy gives us a new perspective on our challenges as catalysts for growth and desperately needs rediscovery! This is what step one is all about!
